Nonthermal atmospheric plasma reactors for hydrogen production from low-density polyethylene

چکیده

Hydrogen is largely produced via natural gas reforming or electrochemical water-splitting, leaving organic solid feedstocks under-utilized. Plasma technology powered by renewable electricity can lead to the sustainable upcycling of plastic waste and production green hydrogen. In this work, low-temperature atmospheric pressure plasma reactors based on transferred arc (transarc) gliding (glidarc) discharges are designed, built, characterized produce hydrogen from low-density polyethylene (LDPE) as a model waste. Experimental results show that rate efficiency increase monotonically with increasing voltage level in both reactors, maximum 0.33 0.42 mmol/g LDPE for transarc glidarc respectively. For reactor, smaller electrode-feedstock spacing favors greater production, whereas, obtained at intermediate flow rates. The comparable despite markedly different modes operation between two reactors.

Optimization-based strategies for the operation of low-density polyethylene tubular reactors: nonlinear model predictive control

In this work, we present a general nonlinear model predictive control (NMPC) framework for low-density polyethylene (LDPE) tubular reactors. The framework is based on a first-principles dynamic model able to capture complex phenomena arising in these units. We first demonstrate the potential of using NMPC to simultaneously regulate and optimize the process economics in the presence of persisten...

Feasibility of nonthermal atmospheric pressure plasma for intracoronal bleaching.

AIM To investigate the effect of nonthermal atmospheric pressure plasma on intracoronal tooth bleaching in blood stained human teeth. METHODOLOGY Forty extracted single-root and blood stained human teeth were used. The teeth were randomly divided into two groups (n=20): group 1 received 30% HP activated by nonthermal atmospheric pressure plasma in the pulp chamber for 30 min, whilst group 2 r...

Efficacy of Nonthermal Atmospheric Pressure Plasma for Tooth Bleaching

The conventional light source used for tooth bleaching has the potential to cause thermal damage, and the actual role of the light source is doubtful. In this study, we evaluated bleaching efficacy, temperature, and morphological safety after tooth bleaching with nonthermal atmospheric pressure plasma. Tooth bleaching combined with plasma had improved efficacy in providing a higher level of bri...

Optimization-based strategies for the operation of low-density polyethylene tubular reactors: Moving horizon estimation

We present a moving horizon estimation (MHE) application for multi-zone low-density (LDPE) polyethylene tubular reactors. The strategy incorporates a first-principles dynamic model comprised of large sets of nonlinear partial, differential and algebraic equations (PDAEs). It was found that limited temperature measurements distributed along the reactor are sufficient to infer all the model state...

Plasma-assisted immobilization of heparin onto low-density polyethylene surface.

In this study heparin was covalently immobilized onto LDPE-VEMAC sheet fabricated by the introduction of carboxyl groups to the surface of low-density polyethylene (LDPE) using a plasma technique. The plasma irradiation time influenced the density of carboxyl groups on the LDPE-VEMAC sheet. Heparin was immobilized on the LDPE-VEMAC sheet using a condensation reagent, N-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)-N...
